Berries are superfoods because they are an excellent source of flavonoids, especially anthocyanidins. These antioxidant compounds are responsible for the blue, purple and red pigments.
Pumpkin seeds are healthy because they supply minerals such as phosphorous, magnesium, iron, manganese, zinc, and copper. In addition, pumpkin seeds are a good source of vitamin A, vitamins B1, B2, and B3, protein, monounsaturated fats, and phytosterols, particularly beta-sitosterol.
Nuts and seeds provide excellent human nutrition, being especially good sources of essential fatty acids, vitamin E, protein, and minerals. Nuts have been reported to support heart and brain health and are generally terrific for us.
